Weekend Update / For 2019, Judd Kendall VFW Past Commander Tom Parker and Commander Pablo Araya presented the medal for the best costume to “a little princess” during the 6th Annual Judd-A-Thon held Sunday morning. The .1K fun run is a benefit for the VFW/National Home for Children, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, a special place that assists the nation’s military and veteran families during difficult times.

Hundreds of local residents aim to raise critically needed awareness and funds as they join together to walk through the historic North Central College campus and along the east extension of the Riverwalk.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Naperville – Registration: 8AM / Walk 10AM to noon

Thousands of Naperville residents will join the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease at the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Naperville. The opening ceremony begins at 9:30AM. This is the second largest Walk in Illinois and residents plan to raise more than $500,000. Funds raised support the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. On Walk day, participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with Promise Flowers during the poignant Promise Garden Ceremony – a moving display of hope to represent the personal reasons participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s. Participants can join a team or register to walk as an individual at alz.org/walk.

Mike McGrath, VP of the VFW/National Home for Children Board of Trustees, welcomes the community into the act, grateful when the Judd-A-Thon produces a little green for the needs of children and the organization he serves. In fact, last year, McGrath won first place in the 5th Annual Judd-A-Thon Costume Contest. Sláinte!

Every penny collected from Judd-A-Thon sponsors goes directly to the VFW National Home for Children, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, to assist the nation’s military and veteran families during difficult times. Founded in 1925, the VFW National Home for Children serves as a place “where the families left behind by war — mothers and children, brothers and sisters — could remain together, keeping the family circle intact even when their serviceman didn’t come home.” Mindful that today’s military families face different challenges, the services of the National Home continually have evolved to meet those changing needs.
