Wrap up April with sunshine and reflection

-

Above / The view from the Farmers Plaza near the Eagle Street Bridge overlooking the quarry depicts a view of the can-do spirit that built the Riverwalk along the DuPage River. The Gregory Gazebo, Jaycees Marina, Rotary Hill and Moser Tower with the 72-bell carillon represent just a few of the generous gifts that contributed to the creation of the community's natural treasure in the heart of downtown. The last week of every month, we pretty much go underground while assembling the last round of edits to produce our monthly printed newspaper. Considering spring fever and the joy we find outdoors this season when the landscape is changing by the minute, you might say we appreciated the weekend of overcast and rainy days. A few April showers while we were trying to pull together the May issue of Positively Naperville were OK.

That said, after we sent the files to the printer late Monday evening, we were thrilled to see sunshine on the final day of April. And during the early morning walk to pick up the newspaper on the driveway, we noticed what a difference a few days had made in the greening of our parkway trees.

Sunshine is great for my disposition. Sunny days also contribute to peaceful reflection when out and about along the City’s natural treasure or traipsing along the trail in May Watts Park.

Whenever possible, head outside to appreciate the special spring touches and nurturing aspects of Mother Nature. Enjoy the great outdoors.

Pause & reflect along the Riverwalk & at May Watts Pond

On a related note, it’s no secret most folks we know prefer sunny days. Some folks even worship the sun for its many health benefits.

Just now we searched online for “benefits of sunshine summary” and dozens of links popped up. At the top of the list we found what we already knew: “Sunlight helps boost a chemical in your brain called serotonin, and that can give you more energy and help keep you calm, positive and focused.”

Whether nourishing the growth of trees, plants and crops or keeping our world warm and bright for everyone’s wellbeing, sunlight is essential for life.

And we wondered as we wandered along the winding brick path where many invasive trees had been removed to help restore the ecosystem. Mindful of a recent Arbor Day report that mentioned there are an estimated 3.04 trillion trees in the world, we remembered we forgot to include a query along the bottom of one of the pages in our May issue.

Ever wonder if there are really 422 trees for every person on Earth?
