So far this week, PN cameras have spotted three different families of Canada geese along the Riverwalk. This family with five goslings enjoyed finding food in the yard near the patio behind Peanuts. Remember! Don’t get too close. Geese protect their young by hissing and chasing. (PN Photo)

Friday / May 3

Memorial Day Parade Entry Deadline / All groups associated with Veterans activities are welcome to participate in the 2024 Naperville Memorial Day Parade that steps off along Jackson Avenue at 10:30AM Mon., May 27. Find his bronze likeness located behind the Naperville Township Building, just over the Moser Covered Bridge at Webster Street, leading toward Water Street. Riverwalk Cleanup / 9AM / Community volunteers welcome! From 9AM to noon, assist spreading mulch and more during event organized by the Jungles Group in collaboration with the Naperville Park District. Gather at the Dandelion Fountain, Jackson at Webster, for a “chance to roll up your sleeves, enjoy the fresh air and spread some love (or mulch)!” said organizer Kristin Jungles. “Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to community service, your help is invaluable.”

Characters on Water Street / 9:30PM / Meet costumed characters from a galaxy far, far away when they return from 9:30AM to 11:30AM Sat., May 4, in downtown Naperville. Free of charge, the family-friendly event offers plenty of photo opportunities.  Note also… Heard from Mike Kristula at Treasures located at 212 S. Washington Street that his store has a variety of Star Wars games and gadgets.

Honor Flight Fundraiser / 11AM / The 2024 DuPage Veterans Foundation Honor Flight Fundraiser is set for 11AM to 3PM Sat., May 4, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds located at 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton. / Eventgoers can enjoy live music, military vehicles and memorabilia, lunch, bagpipers, and other family-friendly activities by purchasing tickets prior to the event or at the door. World War 2 and Korean War Era Veterans, and kids under the age of 12 receive free entry. Tickets: $45 at the door and $10 for ages 13 to 18 years of age. Food Truck Festival at Naper Settlement / Noon to 7PM / Early Eater Tickets to enter from 11 to 12:30PM (Ask at the gate) / General Admission ($10 at the gate) into the #NFTF begins at 12:30PM Kids 10 & under are free with a paying adult. 25-plus food truck menus offer wide variety of food for purchase. Event returns featuring the area’s best food trucks, live music entertainment, a Mega bubble Show, Cinco de Mayo beer garden and a local vendor village featuring face painters, balloon artist & kids tattoo artist. Eat for a great cause! A portion of the proceeds from the #NFTF will benefit Community Access Naperville and their mission to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work in, contribute to, and enjoy their community.

Derby Party for Hesed House / 3PM / Hats off for the colorful display of community spirit and charitable giving that’s beginning to populate the calendar during the merry month of May.  Always on the first Saturday in May, the Kentucky Derby Party to benefit Hesed House returns under the big tent at White Eagle Golf Club from 3-7PM. Though the horses at the post may change, many details remain the same!  Please note, this party is a 21+ event. Tickets are $250 each, reserved in advance. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Walk MS 2024 / 10AM / Witness how support changes the lives of people with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and gets us closer to our ultimate goal: a cure. Event takes place at Riverwalk Grand Pavilion. North Central College Commencement / 1PM / Doors open at 11:30AM in the Residence Hall/Recreation Center (seating is first come first serve; no tickets required). Processional  begins at 12:40PM from Merner Field House to Residence Hall/Recreation Center. Commencement Ceremony begins at 1PM. (Live broadcast of the ceremony available at Wentz Concert Hall and online on the College’s website by clicking HERE).
