The city planner arrived here with his family by Conestoga wagon in the summer of 1831 and his story is celebrated at Naper Settlement, Aurora Avenue at Webster Street, the city’s 12-acre outdoor history museum where the Victorian Martin Mitchell Mansion is the centerpiece.  A 9-ft. Century Walk sculpture stands at the site of the Joe Naper Homestead at Jefferson and Mill streets.
