To commemorate the life of Naperville resident Kimberly Sandford, A Pint for Kim is hosting its 5th Annual blood drive from 8AM to 3PM Sat., May 11, at Naperville North High School. The event is held in honor of Naperville resident Kimberly Sandford, who lost her life to cancer in March 2020.
Kim suffered from chemo induced anemia from her treatment for a one in ten million cancer and required over 40 blood transfusions in her final months. Prior to passing, Kim expressed her desire to help others and asked that a blood drive be held in lieu of a wake. Kim’s family continues to grow the movement to spread awareness that the largest use of donated blood goes to cancer patients.
While walk ins are welcome, individuals can register for a time slot to donate blood at https://donate.illinois.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/5607611
Last year, more than 600 pints of blood were collected. This year, the organization has increased the number of donation beds by 50% and expects to see closer to 800 people donate.
The free celebration of life event will feature a huge car show, live music, raffles, games, food trucks, kids’ area and more.
Naperville North High School is located at 899 N Mill Street.
Did you know? In January the American Red Cross reported it was facing an emergency blood shortage as it experienced the lowest number of people giving blood in the last 20 years. Every pint of donated blood can save up to three lives. One-third of all blood donations help cancer patients.
