So, you’re going to put your home on the market. Wonder what folks are going to say as they track though your home critiquing every square foot?
Well, I can tell you they probably are not going to comment on what nice layout you have or the abundance of space if they can’t see past the outdated décor. People in general are very visual thinkers. They are not even going to notice the nice upgraded hardwood floors if you have dated draperies.
They won’t notice the attractive crown molding if you have dark dingy paint or even worse wallpaper staring them in the face.
I know, I know, you don’t want to put money into a house you are not even going to live in anymore. Think about this…everyday that house does not sell means money lost and ultimately if it does not sell in your time frame you will need to lower the price.
Why not “wow” potential buyers from the start by doing some low cost upgrades. Exchange heavy or out dated window treatments for some simple clean line top treatments or shades. Change out your outdated bedding to a crisp white duvet with some colored pillows, think “posh hotel.” Give your walls and trim a fresh coat of paint. Change out your shower curtain and towels with new fresh ones. Change out any bright gold fixtures for bronze, nickel or pewter. Re-arrange your furniture to show the best amount of space.
It is always nice to have someone other than your realtor give you an honest critiquing. I offer this service to our clients for a reasonable hourly fee and provide a list of recommended changes. You can do some changes yourself or hire my professional help to get your home designed to sell, fast!
