Greetings to PN – January 2013

-

Most recent Greetings at the top.

I’m almost a year late with this, but for some reason I missed that nice column you did for PN when I got the Chamber Lifetime Achievement award. Yesterday I was checking out stuff on the Internet and came across it. I don’t know how I missed it last May, but I did. Anyhow, it was very touching and more than a bit flattering.

This thank you is thus long overdue.
—Tim West, Columnist & Editor at Naperville Sun

Thank you for participating in the 17th Annual International Festival last Sunday. We enjoyed having you and we hope that you will consider joining us again next year. Official information will be coming out in October but mark your calendars now for the 18th International festival to be on Sunday, February 9, 2014. … Wishing you all much success, contentment and blessings in 2013. —Bessma Shammas, Office of International Programs, North Central College

I am wearing another “hat” this time, but want to let you know of a spectacular event that will be taking place in Naperville at North Central College. It is a show stopper and greatly needed in our community as expressed by a multitude of parents and guidance counselors. Its focus is junior and senior high school college-bound girls. “What I Wish I Had Known Before Going to College!” … (will be held) on Saturday, March 16, 2013 for a first hand look! —Paulette Goodman, AAUW

We [Salon 625] have the best and most loyal clients and for that we are sincerely grateful. With support from friends, family, and clients, Salon 625 was able to donate a wide variety of non-perishable goods to stock the pantries of Little Friends’ families. … Most clients were just happy to give to a great organization, but were glad to see their generosity was appreciated. Salon 625 hopes to continue this “Giving Back” tradition and has been involved with various women’s shelters. Thank you to all of our friends, family and clients! You made our holiday giving to Little Friends a huge success. Laurie Bollnow, Owner of Salon 625

There used to be an auto shop there run by a person named Meilley. I remember vaguely they had a gas pump out front. Then there was what we called “The Bird Cage Factory.” They some how dumped something in the DuPage River that killed a lot of fish. That was back in the late 1940s early 1950s. When it was torn down for the building that is there now, I don’t know if they removed the gas tank in the ground or if they ever cleaned up the ground. Also, in the north part of the building that is there now, it was a Lora Mae Donut Shop. … I wish the people who write things for papers would get things (straight) instead of just writing, without getting the facts correct. That building as it was (before demolition on Jan. 19), was built in the 1950s and the old building was built in the 1930s, but then, most people who write for newspapers are not too bright. —Mike Ripsky

So MANY changes in Naperville! But “Positively Naperville” lives on – good for you! —Sue Wehrli

Editor’s Note: Sue Wehrli, founder of Wehrli World Travel, was among the first eight advertising sponsors of Positively Naperville in 2001, the group that set the monthly publication in motion. These days, Sue is still working in travel, servicing many clients that she’s had for more than 40 years, with lots of new clients and friends from up north in Door County where she’s living on the Lake and “life couldn’t be better!”

I want to say THANK You for including our press release and picture of the kids!  Laurie DeGruiff

I read your latest issue of Positively Naperville. …  Thanks for again creating this outstanding, positive publication.   Your Homeowners Confederation column mentions the “Common Core Curriculum standards” and states “These federal mandates will dramatically impact not only how children are instructed but hold the potential for financials impacts on all homeowners as the game changes.” Is there any way PN can feature a story about these new standards and what it means to people and children in Naperville? —Jini Clare

Editor’s Note: The Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation meeting begins at 8:30AM Sat., Jan. 19., in the lower level of the Municipal Center. We encourage interested citizens to attend the 90-minute meeting to hear first hand from legislators who represent Naperville as they address the federal mandates that will impact local residents.

I’m at Panera in Downers Grove, taking a break from deliveries, having a bowl of soup, reading the Jan 2013 Positively Naperville… and feeling surprise and gratitude!  THANK you!! Happy New Year! —Brooke Keane, Editor www.napervilledog.com
