Located in the historic home along Jefferson Hill in downtown Naperville, Quigley’s Irish Pub will open its patio at 11AM on Friday, May 29, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Patrons also will find an expanded outdoor seating area located in fenced-in socially-distanced “corrals,” said co-owner Michele Michael.
When Quigley’s Irish Pub opens its patio at 11AM Fri., May 29, it’ll have a new look. In addition to its patio, a white picket fence will surround “corrals with tables for six all along the curb,” said co-owner Michele Michael.
She expects individuals who plan to return will look a little different, too, as they follow protocols and state orders to wear face coverings except while eating and drinking at a table. She said Quigley’s staff also will be wearing face coverings when within 6 feet of customers or others, following all protocols for public health and safety per state order.
Tables on the patios and in Quigley’s fenced-in corrals will be limited to parties of six and have been placed social distance of 6 feet apart.
Quigley’s also will advise customers to spread out at least 6 feet while waiting for a table. Guests will be seated first-come, first-served, only when all members of a party have arrived. Four-tops will be available on the patio.
Other changes will include some limits to the single-use menu and beers on tap. All caddies with condiments will be returned inside and sanitized after use at every table.
One of several new gluten-free items on the menu is Reuben Roll Dip with cauliflower chips, according to Michael, who anticipates it might even become more popular than their tasty Reuben Rolls appetizer.
Michael said inside restrooms will be available. She added that her mother, Nancy Quigley, has contributed some dog images to help lead the way to restrooms, hoping to speed up the experience.
“The photos are my goldens, Charlie and Flynn, wearing scarves that say ‘Woof-da,'” said Quigley, noting adaptation of the Scandinavian expression certainly is appropriate for the occasion. “I learned the term ‘Uff da’ visiting friends in Minnesota where it’s used to express relief, exhaustion or astonishment—and that everything’s going to be OK.”
The dog images will be placed on the floor of the pub, creating a direct path to the restrooms. Patrons will not be permitted to crowd restrooms. Posted signs will provide guidelines. Hand sanitizer will be available for their use in the restrooms.
Hand sanitizer also will be available for outdoor seating areas. All employees will be following protocols for disinfecting and cleaning, Michael said.
And what has not changed? Quigley’s patio is pet-friendly, welcoming well-behaved dogs on leashes to stay close to the owner at all times.
As is tradition, Quigley’s will not accept reservations.
“Our kitchen staff and service staff are prepared,” said Michael. “We’ve all missed our regulars—many have called to see if we’re taking reservations—and we’re not. For more than 20 years, we’ve always aimed to do the right thing every day. So, of course, when we open, we plan to keep everybody safe.”
Curbside Service Continues
During the past couple months when indoor dining was ordered closed, Quigley’s has offered curbside service for take-out orders. While the dining room and bar area remains closed until further notice, the take-out menu continues to be available.
