Update, April 16, 2020 / Since January 22, 2020, when Edward Hospital first sent details about this pandemic, a “What You Should Know” post was updated regularly through March 18 until it simply was way too long. Ever since, this website has included COVID-19 by the numbers. Without knowing what the next day, even next hour, would present, PN also has connected to www.worldometers.info where simple graphs and other info are easy to follow, even when data seems inconsistent, changing so rapidly during these uncharted times.
Still, advice remains… Wash your hands often, but don’t wash away your commonsense.
Help keep the community safe. Stay home whenever possible. Wear a face mask or bandana. Cover coughs and sneezes.
Hold onto hugs for future giving. Keep a 6′ social distance. Take walks and appreciate the flowers of spring in every neighbor’s garden. Smile at today’s snowflakes. Remember moments of laughter. Call family and friends. Have faith, hope and charity to fulfill unmet needs of less fortunate.

April 16, 2020: Daily COVID-19 Case Counts* for DuPage County
*Data are provisional as of 11AM April 16, 2020, and subject to change.
Total cases in DuPage County residents 1,473 (273 outbreak-associated** and 1,200 non-outbreak-associated cases), including 70 deaths
Total Willowbrook long-term care facility outbreak-associated cases 54 (35 residents and 19 staff), including 10
deaths

**Outbreak-associated cases are linked to a congregate setting (e.g., long-term care facilities, workplaces, schools) or large gathering (e.g., convention, concert).
Since yesterday, there are 80 new cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County including six (6) deaths reported.
Regarding the 273 outbreak-associated cases (including 41 deaths) among DuPage County residents:
• 43 cases (including 10 deaths) are attributed to the Willowbrook long-term care facility (LTCF),
• 188 cases (including 31 deaths) are attributed to 25 additional LTCFs, and
• 42 cases are attributed to 16 outbreaks in other congregate settings and large gatherings.
DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) announces six (6) additional COVID-19 deaths:
• Female resident of a Bensenville long-term care facility in her 90s with underlying conditions,
• Female resident of a Burr Ridge long-term care facility in her 80s with underlying conditions,
• Female resident of a Westmont long-term care facility in her 90s with underlying conditions,
• Male resident of DuPage County in his 80s with underlying conditions who had been living in the community,
• Male resident of DuPage County in his 80s with underlying conditions who had been living in the community, and
• Female resident of a Lombard long-term care facility in her 90s with underlying conditions.
DCHD offers our condolences to the families and caregivers of these individuals. We remain committed to address the unfortunate loss of life related to COVID-19. Our efforts continue with healthcare and community partners to reduce COVID-19 transmission in DuPage County.
DuPage County Board & COVID-19 Media Staff Notes…
April 16, 2020 / Under leadership of County Board Chairman Dan Cronin, the DuPage County Board on Tuesday approved two resolutions that would provide funding to two local homeless shelters in response to their COVID-19 efforts.
The Board voted to provide $50,000 to DuPage Pads and $35,000 to the Hope House of the Catholic Charities Diocese of Joliet. The threat of COVID-19 caused DuPage Pads and Hope House to close their congregate sites for homeless clients and provide them with hotel rooms and food, resulting in additional expenses.
Funding for these projects was already included in the County’s FY2020 budget, which included $1 million for the Human Services Grant Fund. DuPage County created this fund to partner with local agencies to provide human service programs to County residents. (Submitted by Evan Shields for DCB)
April 16, 2020 / DuPage County has collected more than 165,000 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) varying from N95 masks, gloves, gowns, face shields, and other critical items since March 26.
DuPage County continues to accept donations with a greater need for N95 masks, surgical gowns, goggles, and face shields. To donate unused PPE, which must be in the original manufacturer’s packaging, visit www.protectdupage.org and complete the PPE Donations Offer Form. Add cloth-covering facemasks to practice of 6′ social distancing
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made the recommendation to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus when in public, the use of clothcovering facemasks by the general public while maintaining 6 feet of social distancing. The recommended cloth facemasks are NOT the N95 masks which should still be reserved for first responders and medical workers who have direct contact with coronavirus patients.

Today, April 16, 2020, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported another 1,140 cases of COVID-19 and an additional 125 deaths in Illinois, bringing the totals to 25,733 and 1,072, respectively. To date, 87 of Illinois’ 102 counties have been impacted, according to IDPH.
