Daily Update / COVID-19 DCHD Case Counts for DuPage County & Beyond / April 4-5, 2020

Above / DuPage County Joint Information Center (JIC) releases daily COVID-19 Case Counts* for DuPage County Health Department. This report includes April 4-5, 2020. For comparisons, last week’s day-to-day post is linked to the bottom of this one. From now on, look for daily posts. Thanks.

April 5, 2020: Daily COVID-19 Case Counts* for DuPage County

*Data are provisional as of 11AM April 5, 2020, and subject to change.

Total cases in DuPage County residents – (88 outbreak-associated** and 599 non-outbreak-associated cases, including 22 deaths)647

Total Willowbrook long-term care facility outbreak-associated cases (34 residents and 17 staff, including 7 deaths) 51

**Outbreak-associated cases are linked to a congregate setting (e.g., long-term care facilities, workplaces,
schools) or large gathering (e.g., convention, concert).

Since yesterday, there are 41 new cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County including three deaths.

Regarding the 88 outbreak-associated cases (including 14 deaths) among DuPage County residents:
• 42 cases (including 7 deaths) are attributed to the Willowbrook long-term care facility (LTCF),
• 25 cases (including 7 deaths) are attributed to 7 additional LTCFs, and
• 21 cases are attributed to 10 outbreaks in other congregate settings and large gatherings.

DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) announces three additional deaths of persons with COVID-19 infection reported since yesterday:
• Female resident of DuPage County in her 80s with underlying conditions who had been living
in the community,
• Female resident of DuPage County in her 70s who had been living in the community, and
• Female resident of a Naperville long-term care facility in her 70s with underlying conditions.

DCHD expresses our deepest sympathies to the families and caregivers of these individuals. We continue to work closely with our healthcare and community partners to reduce risk of COVID-19 complications and death, especially in our most vulnerable populations.

Add cloth-covering facemasks to practice of social distancing

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made the recommendation to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus when in public, the use of clothcovering facemasks by the general public while maintaining 6 feet of social distancing. The recommended cloth facemasks are NOT the N95 masks which should still be reserved for first responders and medical workers who have direct contact with coronavirus patients.

April 4, 2020: Daily COVID-19 Case Counts* for DuPage County

Total cases in DuPage County residents – (88 outbreak-associated** and 518 non-outbreak-associated cases, including 19 deaths)606

Total Willowbrook long-term care facility outbreak-associated cases (34 residents and 17 staff, including 7 deaths) 51

Since yesterday, there are 111 new cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County including two deaths.

Regarding the 88 outbreak-associated cases (including 13 deaths) among DuPage County residents:
• 42 cases (including 7 deaths) are attributed to the Willowbrook long-term care facility (LTCF),
• 25 cases (including 6 deaths) are attributed to 7 additional LTCFs, and
• 21 cases are attributed to 10 outbreaks in other congregate settings and large gatherings.

DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) announces two additional deaths of persons with COVID-19 infection reported since yesterday:

• Female resident of a Carol Stream long-term care facility over 100 years of age, with underlying conditions.
• Male resident of a Carol Stream long-term care facility in his 70s, with underlying conditions.

DCHD expresses our deepest sympathies to the families and caregivers of these individuals. We continue to work closely with our healthcare and community partners to reduce risk of COVID-19 complications and death, especially in our most vulnerable populations.
