Sign up by 5PM if planning to address today’s ‘virtual’ City Council meeting

-

Update, April 8, 2020 / Reminder…

Naperville City Council meetings are held at 7PM on the first and third Tuesdays of most months. During these uncharted times when the need to wash hands, cover coughs and sneezes and keep a social distance to help prevent spread of COVID-19, meetings are held with social distancing top of mind. The next regularly-scheduled meeting is at 7PM Tues., April 21. The agenda for the next meeting will be posted online by Fri., April 17. 2020, likely with similar contact/participation info as below.

Thanks to everyone who wants to know. And thanks to all for service to this community as everyone tries to get through these challenges together with kindness, acceptance and respect, six feet apart.

Naperville City Council meets ‘virtually’ at 7PM April 7!

Naperville City Council is set to meet “virtually” at 7PM Tues., April 7. As always, interested individuals can watch on WCNC (Ch. 6 – WOW, Ch. 10 – Comcast, Ch. 99 – AT&T) or online at https://naperville.legistar.com. Our City again will proclaim April 2020 as Autism Awareness Month in Naperville, a worldwide observance. That’s why Moser Tower is illuminated blue. That’s why many homes have blue lights for “Light it up blue.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Governor Pritzker’s statewide stay-at-home order, Naperville’s next City Council meeting will be held virtually using Zoom.

Members of the public will have the ability to weigh in on agenda items and address the City Council during the meeting through the City’s online speaker sign-up form at www.naperville.il.us/speakersignup. Online sign-up is currently open and will close at 5PM on Tuesday, April 7, at which time no other speakers or comments will be accepted.

Again, to provide public comment on agenda items and address the City Council during this meeting, individuals are required to use the online speaker sign-up form at www.naperville.il.us/speakersignup. Online sign-up will close at 5PM today, April 7, at which time no other speakers or comments will be accepted. Here’s a link to the agenda with its proposed action items as it appears on the City’s website. The agenda also has been copied and posted on this page. Pay attention!

With appreciation for public service provided by the Mayor and City Council, here’s hoping all City Council members are healthy and free of stress with open minds to consider that some action items might be better addressed/approved after the community has a chance to provide public comments, with time for City Council to discuss openly, face to face. Perhaps our community would be best served if some action items were put on hold until after April 30, the date most residents have been advised to “stay at home” and most businesses have been ordered to stay closed.

To welcome input from all who might be interested, maybe City Council members will take a pause. As the City Manager has said more than a few times, “With progress comes delay.”

Perhaps decisions that have a community-wide impact could wait until the next meeting is held in City Council Chambers. Think about it. And stay tuned at 7PM.
