Folks at local mailing centers would like readers to know that for 2020, rates to mail letters and cards will remain the same, while overall, prices for Priority Mail Express and other package rates will increase.

Individuals who print postage online (via Stamps.com), will note the Metered Mail rate also will not increase, with rates remaining at 50 cents in 2020, a 5-cent discount off the Post Office price. Each additional ounce will cost 15 cents (no change from 2019).

Overall, prices for Priority Mail Express will increase by 2.2 percent. A 1 lb. package going to Zone 8 using Priority Mail Express will cost $38.05 in 2020 compared to $36.52 currently.

Varying increases will be applied to Priority Mail Express Flat Rate, Priority Mail Flat Rate and other services provided by USPS.

Michele Zajac, owner of The Boxes Etc., added, “United Postal Service (UPS) rates for ground and air increased at the end of 2019 and Fed Ex rates went up in January.”
