The Naperville Garden Club is grateful to everyone who attends our annual fundraiser, the Cup of Cheer™ House Walk, Holiday Market and Tea.
We hope you enjoyed touring the Martin Mitchell Mansion at Naper Settlement as they celebrate their 50th birthday and three private homes. The Holiday Market and Tea provided a relaxing place to enjoy home-baked cookies and shop for unique gifts and decorations. Thank you for coming! Proceeds support our scholarship program and various projects in our community.
The all-too-early and shocking start to winter, including snow, threw my fall gardening plans way off schedule! As of mid-November, I still have spring bulbs to plant. I have planted many (“Too many,” says Kent) in pots that will spend the winter in our garage. I have marked my calendar so that I will remember to water them.
Ever the gardening optimist, I am hopeful that it will warm up a bit so that I can have the spring of my dreams with drifts of beautiful flowers. All I need is one afternoon! Please, Santa, an early gift for me?
A professional landscaper friend of mine told me that she has planted tulips, daffodils, etc. as late as December 31, with great results. She lives a little further north, so I should have success, too.
Happy Holidays to everyone! Please take a moment or two to appreciate this wonderful community that we call home. As you travel down the streets, slow down and enjoy the holiday lights and decorations. Wave to neighbors as your paths cross and resolve to do what you can to keep Naperville the best it can be, friendly and beautiful.
