The PropMasters RC Aero Club met recently with Naperville Cub Scout Pack 534 to pass on radio control (RC) flight knowledge to the youngsters while enjoying a sunny day at the Springbrook Forest Preserve airfield, located off Naperville-Plainfield Road.
A dozen young men affiliated with the pack took part in the educational and fun event, which is “one way the PropMasters like to reach out and contribute to our community,” noted Harlan Davis for the PropMasters RC Aero Club.
Davis added that each young man had an opportunity to fly a trainer aircraft after a session with the PropMaster instructors. The Cub Scouts learned to use the controls in the radios to successfully fly a circle route around the airfield using a “buddy box” system which allows the instructor to regain control of the aircraft during an emergency.
“We gave each boy from Cub Pack 534 flying lessons,” said Davis. “We even included some of the dads who wanted to take a lesson.”
The PropMasters welcome opportunities to instruct individuals or groups in the area that have an interest in learning to fly or to simply learn more about the hobby.
