A committee of volunteers gathered at the Spirit of the American Doughboy sculpture recently to launch the 2019 Healing Field of Honor. The display of 2019 American flags is scheduled to cover Rotary Hill from Nov. 1-11, in conjunction with Veterans Day. The theme of the attractive display will be “Remembering a Century of Heroes and Heritage” as the glorious presentation marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and the 100th birthday of the American Legion.

As news of the 2019 Healing Field of Honor is presented, the nation is remembering the 75th anniversary of D-Day. That day, June 6, 1944, 156,000 troops with 5,000 vehicles from the U.S. and Allied Nations stormed the beaches of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II, the largest seaborne invasion in history. That single day more than 12,000 individuals were killed, wounded and captured or went missing. 
Above / Jim Crookston and his father Don Crookston served the U.S. Navy. The younger Crookston served in Vietnam about 25 years after his dad served as a Navy Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II. Pictured here in September 2016, Jim also served as a guardian for his dad on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial and others that pay tribute to all the sacrifices and heroes who served this nation with courage and honor.
