Things to do around Naperville this weekend: August 17-19

Start the weekend with a summer tradition that ends tonight in Central Park…

Naperville Municipal Band Concert – 7:30M | Free of charge
Central Park (Behind Quigley’s Irish Pub. Behind the Kroehler YMCA. Behind US Bank.) Naperville, IL 60540
Venture over to Central Park with friends and a picnic for the final concert of the summer series performed the by the NMB Big Band.  Bring a blanket or chairs or find a seat on a bench. Then plan to return for the indoor fall, winter and spring concerts at Wentz Concert Hall, until the 11-week summer concert series in 2019.

The big stage door goes up at 7:30PM Thurs., Aug. 16, for the NMB Big Band one more time. Then that’s all for this summer, folks! Same time next year.

Friday

Naper Nights – 5-10PM | $10-15
Naper Settlement – 523 S. Webster St. Naperville, IL 60540
Visit Naper Settlement on August 17 and 18 for a line-up featuring a range of classic, country, and soft rock. Friday’s lineup includes Rose Hill Revival, a The Allman Brothers Band tribute, and Chicken Fried, a Zac Brown Band tribute. Saturday will showcase the music of Planet Groove, playing music from the 60s to today, and Bluffett, a Jimmy Buffett tribute. Tickets are $15 adult, $10 youth. Members and children under 4 are free. Purchase tickets at www.napernights.org.

Think dinner and the show. The servers at Catch 35 Naperville, located at Washington and Van Buren in the heart of downtown, will get you to the any performance on time!

Saturday

Naperville Farmer’s Market – 7AM-noon | Free
5th Avenue Station – 200 E 5th Ave, Naperville, IL 60563
The Naperville Farmer’s Market is a rain/shine event that is held every Saturday starting June 2 and ending October 27 in the parking lot of 5th Avenue Station. This is a pet-free market. Over 25 vendors that offer anything from produce, to meat, to flowers, along with hot coffee.

Learn about the services and resources available to job seekers at the Community Career Center including one-on-one appointments with volunteer career coaches covering career exploration, job search strategy, networking, resume review, interviewing, and LinkedIn. In addition, the CCC offers job search related workshops, networking and accountability groups, use of workstations and support from the staff and career coaches. Membership is nominal for a one-year period. Free to all job seekers / No need to RSVP.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome to the patio at Quigley’s, weather permitting, located at 43 E. Jefferson. And it’s real cool inside, too! Start with breakfast from 10AM to Noon at Quigley’s Irish Pub on Saturdays and Sundays. Live music Friday and Saturday evenings.

Casey’s Fires Up the Grill – 11AM | Price varies with purchase.
Casey’s Foods – 124 W. Gartner Rd. Naperville, IL 60540
Caseys Foods located at Naperville Plaza will be firing up its grill every Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 2PM through October, weather permitting. Choose from a variety of options, including burgers, brats, tacos or the weekly special. It’s great food, at a good price, in a fun atmosphere outside under cover.  Saturday specials inside while supplies last include Casey’s Marinated Chicken Breasts only $5.98/lb. and Casey’s Greek Potatoes only $4.29/lb. This Saturday from 8AM – 7PM only.

Tribute to Aretha Franklin – 7PM | No admission charge

City Carilloneur Tim Sleep will perform a ‘pops’ concert that includes a tribute to Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul” who died early August 16, 2018.

Note also Witches Night Out Naperville returns to Naper Settlement from 4:30-9:30PM Thurs., October 11, 2018. Organizers are conjuring up some new attractions that are sure to sweep you off your feet in support of worthy causes! Advance registration is now in progress.

PN’s Voter’s Guide now includes its “Meet & Greet” section for public events and forums, opportunities for voters to get to know the candidates running in the upcoming election cycles. Be prepared to vote on Nov. 6, 2018.

Note also that Naperville residents soon will be passing petitions for signatures to run for Naperville City Council. The first day to pass petitions is Tues., Aug. 28. The Consolidated Election to elect City Council and Mayor, school boards in District 203 and 204 and the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners is April 2, 2019.
