It’s spring! Enjoy the sights & seasonal changes along the Riverwalk!

Do you know the Loyola’s coach connection to Moser Tower along the Riverwalk?

When Catie Barry O’Boyle noticed a Moser Tower post on PN’s Facebook, she commented, “I was assuming the work was to put up a Loyola sign for Coach Moser!”

And we wondered if she knew that Margaret and Harold Moser were Loyola Coach Porter Moser’s aunt and uncle, benefactors to the 72-bell tower that marks the turn to the new millennium. Porter’s father and Harold’s brother, Jim Moser, is recognized for his commitment to establish the Riverwalk to commemorate the City’s sesquicentennial in 1981, a project that was first envisioned in the late 1970s.

Cheers to Coach Moser for giving Loyola its international presence, a good reason to ring the bells and/or hang a banner from Moser Tower. Go, Ramblers!

Moser Tower on the Riverwalk

According the City of Naperville website, in the fall 2017, “the Riverwalk Commission sought additional testing and evaluation on the structure to gain more in-depth information. Engineering Resource Associates (ERA) submitted a proposal to the Riverwalk Commission at the end of 2017 to further assess the structural condition of Moser Tower.”

Click here for information about the Moser Tower Assessment presented in April 2017.

Watch scaffolding going up, up, up this week!

During the Riverwalk Commission meeting in March 14, 2018, Riverwalk Commissioners were updated with the schedule and plans. Beginning Mon., March 26, 2018, weather permitting, when the temperature is expected to remain above 40 degrees, scaffolding will go up around Moser Tower to permit ERA and other engineers to utilize both destructive and non-destructive testing to further assess and determine the root cause of the structure’s deterioration in recent years.

The information gathered will help develop solutions to address the issues. The solutions will also include a life expectancy estimate so the Commission and City staff will know how long the restoration is expected to last.

ERA’s assessment report, including cost estimates, is anticipated to be completed by mid-summer 2018.
