Constitution Day is commemorated annually in September to recognize the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787.

In conjunction with Constitution Week that will take place Sept. 17 to 23, the Daughters of the American Revolution teamed up again with Naperville Public Library to showcase a historical display dedicated to America’s famous document that details the rights of American citizens.

Bettye Wehrli, librarian for Daughters of the American Revolution, worked with the library to complete the impressive display – consisting of an enlarged image of the Constitution, a 1776 photo of the flag as well as a map of the U.S. as it looked with 13 colonies.

“It’s a breath-taking display,” Wehrli said. “What better place to showcase it than the library that houses all the books about the revolution and the Constitution.”

Wehrli worked with Gail Rattray, customer services assistant II at the library, to come up with the vision for the display. This year, the display has been assembled at Naper Blvd. Library as it was at Nichols Library last year and 95th Street Library in 2014.

It is an important election year, so we are asking people to be aware of how important the Constitution is to our freedom and democracy and our way of life,” Wehrli said.

Along with stirring up American pride, the display will help educate library customers on what the first words of the Constitution stand for.

“What a profound statement – ‘We the people’,” Wehrli said. “The freedom we have here is envied. I would like more people to understand the internal battle those men went through to write the Constitution. Hopefully, every year we can promote the Constitution.”

Wehrli added, “This is a way that Daughters of the American Revolution and Naperville Public Library give back to the community.”

Naper Boulevard Library is located at 2035 S. Naper Blvd.
