This week’s City Notes with a few PN photos

-

Above / Today Riverwalk Commission Chairman Geoff Roehll welcomed Pat Kennedy (far left), a civil engineer with V3 Companies, to a 3-year term on the Riverwalk Commission. In recent months, Naperville teens Sameen Ali of Metea Valley and Chip Howenstine of Naperville Central were appointed to the Riverwalk Commission to represent the local high school student population.

Since 1981, with dedicated volunteers in collaboration with the City and the Naperville Park District, the Riverwalk has grown brick by brick to serve generations to come from Jefferson Avenue to Hillside Road. The Riverwalk Commission meets regularly at 7:30AM on the second Wednesday of the month in the lunch room at City Hall. The public always is welcome to attend and comment.

Thanks for reading PN.  Thanks for sharing, too!

March 15 is Primary Election Day

As poll watchers this week welcome voters to the big Early Voting Primary event now running through March 14 in the Naperville Municipal Center, constituents are on notice that Primary Election Day is March 15. Polls will be open 6AM-7PM.

If you decide to vote early, one consequence could be that some of the five remaining candidates on the presidential side of the ballot could suspend their campaigns. Be sure your vote counts. Vote as close to Primary Election Day on March 15 as possible.

wild-geese-flying
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings, these are a few of my favorite things. Enjoy the seasonal changes and wildlife along the Riverwalk!

Meanwhile, brighten days as they’re getting longer with upcoming happenings in Naperville, Illinois.

And while you’re considering civic duties, please take the survey regarding sharing road costs and services between the City and Naperville Township. Space is provided for anonymous comments, too. (Note: Portions of the City of Naperville are served by Naperville, DuPage, Wheatland, Lisle and Winfield and Milton townships.)

Enjoy peaceful walks in Central Park, throughout the Naperville Historic District and the campus of North Central College and all along the Riverwalk, too.

News reports, especially during the dreary winter months, continue to tout the relaxing benefits of spending time in the great outdoors especially when the sun shines. We are grateful our city is plentiful with parks and sidewalks.

Discover sales in downtown Naperville

sales-dean's-jan-11
Check out Dean’s winter sale and new spring arrivals in downtown Naperville.

Sales! Sales! Sales! Venture to downtown Naperville, a happening place chock full of winter sale bargains and many reasons to window shop and go inside, too. Discover many spring styles to spiffy up any wardrobe.

From the Main Street Promenade to Washington Corners, Dean’s Fine Clothing to Anderson’s Bookshop and all points in between, find plenty of reasons to shop, have books signed, dine and be entertained by all the new development in the city’s central business district, including buds on trees!

Naperville Plaza

Plan ahead for St. Patrick’s Day with novelty gifts, greeting cards, green-wrapped chocolate candies and other leprechaun supplies at Oswald’s Pharmacy where there’s a convenient U.S. Post Office location in Naperville Plaza.  In addition, Oswald’s recently added a new Medical Equipment Showroom with all kinds of items to keep folks of all ages moving. Oswald’s new showroom also has the largest selection of lift chairs and other devices to give a little lift.

Ask to see what Oswald’s got going for all the other spring holidays, too. Find everything you need for Easter baskets.

Also stop by Casey’s Foods where you’ll find all the meats are a cut above all others and a gourmet deli offers delicious items good for the heart ready to go.  Now is a good time to place an order for fresh salmon and Casey’s own corned beef for St. Patrick’s Day.

Spend your money where your heart and home are!  Think and shop locally. Recirculate dollars into the local economy whenever possible. Remember many local businesses offer online services and home delivery.

And look for other independents displaying the bright red IndieBound Naperville sign in Naperville Plaza such as First Community Financial Bank where they recently celebrated their first $1 billion in assets! First Community again will be handing out special coupons during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 12 to help raise funds and awareness for St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

CityGate Centre

citygate-entrance
Did you know? Hotel Arista was awarded Four Stars by Forbes Travel Guide. Read all about it in the March issue of PN, available now!

When you head to the Hotel Arista, CityGate Grille, Sugar Toad or Tap In Pub & Carvery at CityGate Centre or a new experience at Top Golf on Naperville’s northwest side, be mindful of the new traffic configuration at I-88 and Route 59 that may create a little confusion for first-time users.

As always, drive with caution according to weather conditions and observe the speed limit. The innovative diverging diamond interchange, now open, is expected to enhance traffic flow on and off I-88.

(The first diverging diamond interchange opened to traffic in the state of Illinois on I-57 at Marion on August 12, 2015. Diverging diamond interchanges are now operational in 18 states across the nation, with plans to construct them in six other states.)

Naperville offers many ways to eat your heart out…

Are you prepared for local Primary Election on March 15?

votePN recently added its 2016 Primary Election Voters Guide featuring candidates running in the Primary Election on March 15, 2016, who want to serve Naperville in Washington, Springfield, DuPage County and Will County.

Early voting ends March 14.

Be prepared for some previously announced candidates to suspend their bids for POTUS.  They may still appear on the ballot, but your vote won’t count if you vote for them. Our Voters Guide aims to keep readers up to date regarding who is running and who is not.

Have you read the latest about the Independent Map Amendment?

According to recent news reports, organizers and supporters petitioning to put redrawing the Illinois District Maps question on the General Election Ballot, Nov. 8, 2016, are on their way to having the signatures they need.

Visit Independent Map Amendment to check their progress as they aim to create a nonpartisan 11-member board and “a system where the voters choose their representatives instead of the representatives choosing their voters.”

State of the City Address will be in April 2016

FYI: In response to inquiries in recent weeks, note that the State of the City Address presented by the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, usually held in late January, has been moved to Mon., April 25, 2016.  To accommodate the large audience, the event will take place at the Embassy Suites.
