Naperville Fire Department responds to a structure fire in the 200 Block of East 4th Ave.
At 6:08PM on Friday evening (Nov. 27, 2015), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a homeowner reporting that an appliance on the second floor was on fire.
PSAP initially dispatched a Full Still Alarm assignment to the reported address, which brought six pieces of fire apparatus and 15 fire personnel to the scene.
The first arriving fire company arrived within 5 minutes and reported nothing showing from the exterior, upon entry however heavy smoke conditions were found. The alarm was upgraded to a General alarm, which brought an additional 4 pieces of equipment and 13 personnel.
It was immediately confirmed that all occupants were safely evacuated. Fire attack was initiated by the first-arriving engine, medic, and truck companies and a water source was secured. Upon pulling a hose line into the structure, the fire was found to be burning in a laundry room on the second floor, which was quickly extinguished.
Upon the arrival of additional fire companies, salvage and overhaul operations were performed. The fire was brought under control within 19 minutes of the arrival of the first companies. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) deemed the unit uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Plainfield, Lisle-Woodridge, and Downers Grove Fire Departments provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, and the family cat was rescued during the operation.
