As the last month of summer rolls around, the community starts to think about going back to school. It’s a time of excitement and transitions – from nervous five year olds waiting to take their first bus ride to kindergarten to eager 14 year olds anxious to start high school. And for parents like me it’s a bittersweet transition. I, like many others in our community, have joined the ranks of the empty-nesters and will be sitting on the sidelines that first day back to school!
The good news for all of us is that NCTV17 has plenty of programming to keep us connected to our schools – whether we have kids in the system or not.
On Sunday, August 24 the ninth season of “Naperville Sports Weekly” launches. With the three Indian Prairie 204 high schools joining Naperville Central and North in the DuPage Valley Conference, this is the first time all five of our local public high schools will compete in the same athletic conference. “Naperville Sports Weekly” will be there bringing viewers all the highlights, stories and special features as new rivalries and intense competition are sure to ensue.
“School Scene” will return with superintendents, Dr. Karen Sullivan and Dan Bridges, keeping the community informed about what’s going on within the 55 schools that make up Districts 203 and 204.
NCTV17’s community events team will be back capturing a variety of the Fine Arts performances taking place within the local high schools. From vocal pop to jazz band, Orchesis to orchestras, NCTV17 is always thrilled to be able to showcase the amazing talents of our community’s teens!
So no matter what your parenting status is on that first day back to school, tune in to your local TV station to stay connected. Community engagement is key to the success of any educational system and it starts with being informed about what’s happening!
