This last month was Mike’s turn to get out of Dodge and go to Las Vegas for a guys’ golf trip. I knew that this winter was getting to him when he started laying out his golf equipment weeks before the trip. He was totally serious—checking clubs, golf balls, shoes, gloves, etc.
You can tell the difference between men and women. I would have been checking the weather and worrying about what clothes to bring. Mike did that in 10 minutes the night before his flight out! I don’t get it.
Anyway, it was a vacation for me not having to cook and it was a vacation for him to be out golfing. I know that after this winter he will be on the golf courses as soon as possible—just to get out of the house.
Mike did say that Las Vegas has changed since the last time he was there—certainly bigger and bigger casinos and hotels. It’s gotten more expensive—$13 for a vodka and tonic. Please!
But we are now working on our next trip together. We’re heading to Arizona over Easter to spend a couple days in Prescott. Mike kind of likes the idea of a place that is not as hot as Phoenix and is in the pines.
Then we’ll be in Phoenix to have a late birthday party with the grandkids – kind of hard to believe that they are 15 and 16.
Also, we have a nephew who just moved to Tempe, working as an athletic trainer for the Cubs. It’ll be fun to catch up with him and hear stories about his first spring training experience. He mentioned the new Cubs Park is awesome and pretty much sold out every game. This is not good for people who like to make lastminute decisions!
Mike actually saw one solitary daffodil trying to poke out in our front yard. I think that’s going to be our spring this year. My prediction: The longest winter to summer in one week!
