Interior Motives – Generation Decoration

-

Remember when you were a teenager and you felt that your parents just did not understand you? No matter how much they tried, they just didn’t get what being cool was for your generation.

Well, now you’re the parent and you may find yourself having the same arguments with your teenager that your parents had with you. With a little compromising and a willingness to keep an open mind from both parties, you may just be able to create a teen’s bedroom that both of you can live with.

roselandHere are some tips:

Shop Smart. Visit thrift shops and flea markets as well as garage sales. Teenagers can be very creative. You can find old furniture and repaint it into something cool and fun for your teen’s room. And you never know you may just find something for your own room too.

Pick A Theme. Decide on the color theme of the room. Using colorful and vibrant pillows, curtains and throws will bring a sense of coziness and comfort to the room while keeping it young and hip. If your teen is into a certain activity such as sports or music, you can use that theme for the room.

Have Fun Together! You will be spending a great deal of time together shopping, comparing ideas and just being creative. Decorating your teen’s room can be a fun activity that allows you to see each other as individuals with distinct personalities, style and taste, as well as bring you closer.

If you find you need a mediator, you can always call on the help of a decorator like me. I was a pretty cool teenager once.
