Naperville’s American Legion seeks nominations for 2013 Citizen-of-the-Year

-

american_legion_emblem (1)American Legion Post No. 43 is requesting nominations from the public for its 2013 Naperville Citizen-of-the-Year Award.

The annual award recognizes and seeks to encourage service to the Naperville community or to the Nation.

“Community Spirit is part of the strong and dependable core of our great Nation,” said Wayne Fischer, chairman of the Citizen-of-the-Year Award Committee. “Year in and year out, Americans reach out to help each other. We at the American Legion want to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of local people who reach out locally.”

As has become tradition, the American Legion asks fellow citizens to nominate Napervillians deserving to be recognized as Citizen-of-the-Year.

“People who are nominated don’t need to be members of the American Legion. And they don’t need to be Veterans, either,” said Fischer.

Pamela Davis, Chief Executive Officer of Naperville’s Edward Hospital, received the 2012 Citizen-of-the-Year Award for all that she has done to enhance the physical health of our community and the “ethical health” of the state of Illinois.

Nomination process

The American Legion requests that individuals who submit nominations for the 2013 Award provide a note that identifies the nominee(s) and summarizes their achievements. The note should also indicate the nominator’s name, address and telephone number.

Nominations may be submitted by postal mail to American Legion Post No. 43, P.O. Box 4, Naperville, IL 60566 or by e-mail to Wayne.L.Fischer@gmail.com. The Award Committee requests that all nominations be received by Monday, March 18. Award Committee Chairman Wayne Fischer will welcome all questions and comments. He can be reached by telephone (630-240-8868) and by email.

The recipient(s) of the Award will be honored at an American Legion awards dinner on April 20 in Naperville.

Did you know? With offices in Washington, DC, and with 14,000 Posts worldwide, the 2,400,000-member-strong American Legion is the Nation’s largest Veterans service organization.

Naperville’s American Legion Post No. 43 (www.naperlegion.org) is in its 93rd year of serving Veterans and the Community. The Post is one of the oldest Posts in Illinois and in the Nation. All Veterans and active-duty Military Personnel are invited to attend the Post’s meetings, which are held on the first Thursday evening of every month.
