The start of a new year often feels like a blank canvas, ready for us to paint our aspirations and dreams.
Setting resolutions or intentions can indeed be a powerful way to channel that energy and focus on what matters most to us. Whether it’s a list of specific goals or more general themes for personal growth, it’s always a great time for reflection and reaffirmation. Have you thought about what you’d like to prioritize or focus on in this new year?
Let me humbly offer a few suggestions that might inspire you.
Volunteer – Volunteering is a great way to be a part of something meaningful. Volunteering not only supports the community but also offers personal fulfillment and the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives. At the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) we love volunteers! We match volunteers with programs that align with their interests and availability to ensure both the volunteers and the participants benefit from the experience. Consider volunteering with WDSRA.
Part-Time Job – Part-time jobs can indeed be an excellent way to not only earn some extra income but also to indulge in your passions and connect with others who share similar interests. Think it’s too much of a commitment? Think again! At WDSRA, your commitment can be as little as one program (approximately 2 hours once a week for 6, 8 or 10 weeks). It can also be more than that simply by committing to more programs. Share your passion. Earn some cash. Be a part of something meaningful.
The Bash – For anyone interested in making a difference or simply looking forward to an enjoyable evening while supporting a great cause, The Bash is the perfect occasion. In one incredible evening (Saturday, March 2) you can have a profound impact on the lives of people in your community. The Bash, our signature event, includes an open bar, dinner, dessert, raffles, auctions, entertainment and more. Every ticket bought, each bid placed, every paddle raised – they all translate to a life-changing impact. Special recreation is a lifeline for those with special needs, offering the chance to be part of a sports team, engage in meaningful day programs, dancing with friends, or more. It enriches lives, builds community bonds, and nurtures vital well-being. Learn more about The Bash or get tickets at www.wdsra.com/event/the-bash.
Spread the Word – Help spread the word about special recreation at WDSRA. Our mission is to enrich lives, connect communities and create fun through inclusive recreational opportunities for people with special needs. Spreading the word about the incredible work WDSRA does is crucial to reaching more individuals who could benefit from these programs.
Social media is a powerful tool for raising awareness, sharing information about events, job opportunities, and the overall mission of WDSRA. Encouraging others to support and get involved can indeed make a significant difference through donations, volunteer participation, and more. Please share our posts on Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter).
Introducing WDSRA to someone living with special needs could truly be life-changing for them, opening up avenues for special recreation, connections to the community, and personal growth that they might not have been aware of previously.
A simple act like sharing a post or introducing someone to WDSRA can create such positive ripple effects in the community.
