Original Post, March 4, 2022 / RJM Strategy Group, a local leader in law enforcement, safety and security for business owners and residents, is hosting Real World Self-Defense, a workshop for adults to become empowered with self-defense knowledge and skills to protect themselves in domestic or street violence situations. It is especially designed for adults of all ages with little to no self-defense knowledge or experience.

The workshop will be held from 11:30AM to1:30PM Sun., March 20, in North Central College’s second-floor Wrestling Room, located inside Merner Fieldhouse at 450 S. Brainard Street. Event check-in will begin at 10:45AM.

Instruction will be led by retired police officers, Ray McGury and Chuck May, who bring a combined 60 years of law enforcement experience. Additionally, May is a second-degree black belt with experience in self-defense and Krav Maga instruction.

“With the prevalence of domestic violence and street crimes, adults of all ages should be trained in how to protect themselves,” explained May in a written statement. “In our workshop, we emphasize the critical nature of situational awareness, help participants identify threats, and show them how to escape from threatening situations or physical attacks. Our participants leave our workshops with enhanced confidence and skills they can use immediately.”

Training workshop for adults, ages 18 and up

The training workshop, for adults ages 18 and up, will include 30 minutes of instruction on situational awareness and avoiding confrontations and assaults. The last 90 minutes will instruct participants on basic self-defense skills. Both male and female instructors will be on hand to assist participants. Attendees should come dressed for a light cardio workout.

(Please note that because this training session will be held in the wrestling room, participants will need to remove their shoes since the floor is a padded wrestling surface/mat.)

The cost to attend is $40 for adults and $30 for students; payment will be taken on the day of the event via cash or check made payable to RJM Strategy Group. Pre-registration is requested; email: ray@rjmstrategygroup.com or call (630) 360-1965 and provide your name and email address or phone number.
