Journey with Autism – Grateful to be looking toward better times

-

Hallmark in our lives is the opening up of many places as we head out of missing them.

The life we knew killing time indoors and separated by six feet is slowly giving way to gatherings of people protected from this nastiest of viruses. Bigger, bolder crowds now cheer our baseball teams and on sunny lovely days, the lake front is buzzing with bikes and joggers, walkers and skaters, moms and dads with babies on board and children on scooters.

Tennis courts and softball fields are making their comeback and I’m loving losing my mask, at least more of the time.

We honored my dad who passed away three years ago by bringing friends and family, food and music into our home.

Hugs are back and while I’m not able to handle many people touching me, I’m fond of watching others linger in a holding hug, their faces lit up with joy.

We sat closely and had many laughs, and never did we worry that one of us might become badly ill.

My mom is gathering mainly our flat mats to work out and share coffee and ideas. I’m loving their mantra of gratitude and finding at least three things each day to be thankful for.

I’m somehow affected by the words they share, from the simplest to the profound. Me, I’m beyond grateful we are looking toward better times. And I’m thankful for all those who helped us to the other side of a very dark time.
