Indian Prairie School District 204 has announced graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 will take place on Fri., May 28, at each high school’s stadium.
Dear District 204 Community,
Our high schools shared the good news with their parents this week that graduation will take place on May 28 at each school’s stadium. For many years, the district has held graduation ceremonies at Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center, with all three schools having ceremonies on the same day. Due to COVID restrictions, we need to plan differently to ensure we can honor this year’s graduates. Our high school administrators are working to develop plans that follow health department guidance while creating an event that recognizes and celebrates the Class of 2021.
At the end of last week, the CDC released new mitigation guidance for safe in-person instruction. The CDC stated “schools providing in-person instruction should prioritize two mitigation strategies: universal and correct use of masks should be required and physical distancing (at least 6 feet) should be maximized to the greatest extent possible.” The CDC also emphasized the importance of prevention through testing and screening. Thank you to the parents who registered their children for the optional COVID screenings starting next week.
The CDC also stated in-person learning for elementary schools is likely to have less risk of in-school transmission than for middle schools and high schools when mitigation is followed. At next week’s Board of Education meeting we will discuss the plan to increase in-person instruction time for our elementary students while maintaining a remote learning option for those who are staying remote. We will share more information next week after the meeting.
