Help local communities plan schools, roads and other public services.

Wheaton – In recognition of U.S. Census Day on April 1, DuPage County is urging residents to fill out the U.S. Census online or by phone.

Every household in DuPage County should have already received their invitation to participate in the Census. You can complete the Census online by visiting 2020census.gov, or you can complete the Census over the phone or by mail.

Census data is used to determine political representation in Congress, and to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities for services such as roads, bridges, healthcare, and other programs.

“The 2020 Census is safe and easy to fill out,” said DuPage Complete Count Committee Chairwoman Sadia Covert. “The data will provide an essential role in shaping the future of DuPage County, and we strongly urge everyone to take a few minutes and fill out the information.”

“The data our residents provide to the U.S. Census Bureau is highly secure, and by law, cannot be shared with any other governmental or private agency,” said DuPage Complete Count Committee Vice Chairman Jim Healy. “It’s important for everyone to know the answers you provide to the Census Bureau are completely secure.”

The DuPage County Board formed a Complete Count Committee in May 2019 to provide direction and advice to ensure an accurate 2020 Census Count. Since then, the Committee has met monthly and made significant strides to increase awareness of the Census.

County Board Chairman Dan Cronin, Committee Chairwoman Covert, and Committee Vice Chairman Jim Healy recorded Public Service Announcements highlighting the importance of the U.S. Census. A Spanish language version of the PSA by County Board member Greg Hart is also available.

The videos can be found online on the County’s YouTube channel.

‘Listen Up, DuPage!’ coming soon

DuPage County partnered with the College of DuPage to produce a podcast called “Listen Up, DuPage!” The podcast is designed to keep community members informed on key local initiatives, community innovation and central issues shaping DuPage County. The first episode of the podcast focuses on the importance of the U.S. Census and how residents’ participation is critical to shaping the future of DuPage County. The episode features College of DuPage President Dr. Brian Caputo, Chairman Cronin and COD Student Life Coordinator Stephanie Quirk. The first episode will be released on April 1.

Census Bureau update regarding field operations

Due to COVID-19 and concerns over the health and safety of Census Bureau employees, the Census Bureau has pushed back operations by two weeks. Field operations begin April 1, and the deadline to complete the Census has been extended to Aug. 14.

The Complete Count Committee has created a webpage featuring numerous valuable resources for the Census. To view some of these resources and learn more about the County’s Census efforts, please visit https://www.dupageco.org/census.

Joliet – According to its website, Will County also prepared to count for the 2020 Census to ensure fair federal funding.

The Will County Board created an ad-hoc census committee to help ensure that all Will County residents are counted during the federally mandated census which occurs every ten years. The committee will work closely with other community groups and the Will County Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
