Today’s first snow is reason to mention Naperville’s ‘Adopt-a-Drain’ Program

-

Above / Locate drains along the curbs in your neighborhood. If you’re unable to help clear them from leaves, snow and ice to help prevent flooding, let the City know when they appear to be disrupting the flow of water. All help is appreciated. Thank you.

With snow and rain in progress, the forecast predicts cloudy with showers throughout the day, Oct. 30, 2019. The “chance of rain is 100 percent.”  Reports say rainfall is expected to be around a quarter of an inch. Thursday’s weather (Halloween) will bring snow during the morning will transition to snow showers during the afternoon. Then Friday, it’s predicted to turn to a combination of clouds and sun in the morning, followed by cloudy skies during the afternoon.

It’s up to everybody to help keep our community safe. Help keep drains free of debris 365 days a year.

Share info with friends/neighbors about city codes & code enforcement

Frequently at City Council meetings, City staff reminds the community that local code enforcement is best accommodated in Naperville when citizens let the City know of an infraction. The City staff calls it “complaint-based.”

Talk to neighbors and help them understand local codes regarding snow removal, yard sale signs and campaign signs, garbage containers, mobile storage units, etc. Sometimes folks, especially new neighbors, just don’t know the local codes; that it’s their responsibility to shovel and keep sidewalks clear on their property or that it’s up to them to help recognize when there’s a violation.

Check drains often during early snow events. Try to keep up with falling leaves, especially when temperatures hover around freezing and water needs to freely find its way to prevent flooding. Thank you!

Remember never to dump anything down a curbside drain

Adopt-a-Drain Program

Also, local residents can participate in the “Adopt-a-Drain Program,” an initiative where homeowners can sign up to assist the Department of Public Works by monitoring drains and keeping them clear of leaves, debris, snow and ice to help prevent flooding in their neighborhoods.

Keeping curbside drains and all drains on your property cleared, especially when autumn leaves are still falling, helps prevent flooding throughout the city.

To report a code violation, write the TED Business Group , 400 S. Eagle St.  Naperville, IL 60540; call (630) 420-6100 Opt. 3; or email Code Enforcement via ce@naperville.il.us.
