SAFE Coalition for Human Rights (SAFECHR) is scheduled to host its 4th annual Global Anti-Human Trafficking Conference from Nov. 3-6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lisle.

Human trafficking is the second largest criminal enterprise globally with annual revenue of more than $32 billion. Founder/President Dr. Kalyani Gopal established SAFECHR in 2014 in order to showcase leading strategies on how to combat this crisis of human trafficking and share working knowledge across national divides.

This highly interactive networking and educational skills-enhancing conference attracts 300 attendees from more than 70 countries with the intent to foster meaningful discussions and problem-solving breakout sessions.

Individuals attending the conference are from a variety of backgrounds – advocates in the anti-trafficking field, parents, law enforcement agents, legislators, attorneys, clinicians, judges, UN human rights organizations, coalition of African and European nations, refugee and immigration workers, as well as those teaching in schools, and working in social services.

This year’s conference also focuses on cross training and enhancing collaboration among Illinois social service agencies and CEOs and placing them on the global stage.

Global Collaboration and Innovation

Dr. Gopal, a clinical psychologist, says that the goal for the SAFE Conference is global collaboration and innovation.

“Through networks developed at the conference, over 55 children have been rescued, 10,000 individuals trained, cross-trainings have been developed and small organizations are now able to wield greater global influence on par with larger ones,” stated Gopal in a news release.

Dr. Gopal says that what sets this conference apart from other human trafficking-specific training conferences is the platform given to survivors of exploitation and focus on training beginners to advanced professionals.

“We consider them the expert in this field,” she said. “We include survivors on every panel.”

Highlights of this conference are the delegates from Europe and Africa who work directly in impacting policy and legislative efforts and engage in the painstaking and detailed world of criminal prosecution. High profile delegates from Albania, Italy, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Nepal, the Middle East and the United Nations will address the challenges and solutions.

Multiple networking opportunities are available to connect, exchange ideas and pitch for enhancing collaboration. This year, the “Illiana Collaborative,” a new collective joining together of non-governmental organizations from Illinois and Indiana, is being hosted on November 4 to form a powerful entity for cross-sharing human resources.
