St. Olaf Orchestra will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 at Wentz Concert Hall on Oct. 13

Above / Wentz Concert Hall, located at 171 E. Chicago Ave. on the campus of North Central College, will come alive with music by St. Olaf Orchestra on Sun., Oct. 13. Performance will include Mahler’s Symphony No. 1.

The St. Olaf Orchestra, conducted by Steven Amundson, will perform at Wentz Concert Hall on the campus of North Central College at 4PM on Sun., Oct. 13, with members of the Waubonsie Valley Combined Chamber-Level Orchestras as part of its 2019 national tour. Chicago-area natives and St. Olaf College students Austin Cruz, viola; Ella Rose Atkins, trombone; Jack Reynertson, percussion; and Sienna Olson, horn; play in the orchestra.

The concert is free for all students and $15 for adults. A discount is available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased at stolaf.edu/tickets.

Named “one of the best college orchestras in the nation” by Time magazine’s Richard Ostling, the St. Olaf Orchestra is known for its passionate music-making and professional-level performances. The orchestra’s fall tour program will feature Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major and other selections.

A few notes about Conductor Steven Amundson

Steven Amundson joined the music faculty at St. Olaf College in the fall of 1981. Under Amundson’s direction, the St. Olaf Orchestra has become recognized as one of the finest undergraduate orchestras in the United States. In addition to his duties as conductor of the St. Olaf Orchestra, he teaches courses in conducting, aural skills, and music theory and is an active, commissioned composer.

Award-winning & Internationally-acclaimed St. Olaf Orchestra

The St. Olaf Orchestra was recently named the winner of the 2018/2019 American Prize for Orchestra Performance among colleges and universities for the second time. In 2019, the St. Olaf Orchestra made their Carnegie Hall debut, performing with world-renowned violinist, Sarah Chang.

In addition to performing throughout the United States, the orchestra has been broadcast on PBS and public radio stations nationwide as part of the acclaimed St. Olaf Christmas Festival. The St. Olaf Orchestra has toured internationally in , Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, China, Uruguay, and Argentina. Most recently, they traveled to Norway in the spring of 2019 on a joint tour with the St. Olaf Choir.
