KidsMatter kicks off month of events with annual Volunteer Fair

-

Above / Special events hosted by KidsMatter in October begin at Fort Hill Activity Center and end at area high schools, followed on Nov. 13 at the Naperville Municipal Center. See schedule below.

2019 KidsMatter Volunteer Fair is set for October 9 / Fort Hill Activity Center

KidsMatter will host its annual Volunteer Fair from 5:30 to 7:30PM Wed., Oct. 9, 2019, at Fort Hill Activity Center, 20 Fort Hill Drive. The Volunteer Fair welcomes area students while connecting youth and families to a wide variety of volunteer service opportunities from more than 40 nonprofits in the area. The well-attended event is designed for students and family members who want to give back to the community and/or fulfill community service hour requirements.

Local nonprofit agencies and organizations will be on hand to showcase their volunteer and advocacy opportunities, enabling volunteers to find service venues that match their interests, major, career goals, and schedules. This free fair is open to families and all students from area elementary, middle, high school, and colleges; serving as an ideal opportunity for youth groups from faith communities, scout troops, and other youth organizations to choose service projects.

Participating nonprofits are all locally-based groups such as the Naperville Park District, Feed My Starving Children, DuPage Children’s Museum, Naperville Public Library, Naper Settlement, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, the Morton Arboretum and more.

Each nonprofit organization will have representatives available to discuss opportunities they have available for both students and families to positively impact the lives of other people and animals for a better future.

Community Yellow Box is located at 1635 Emerson Lane.

KidsMatter will host annual Digital Leader Summit

KidsMatter—in partnership with School Districts 203 and 204—developed Digital Leader Summit, a program to empower students to realize their leadership potential, combat cyberbullying and create a positive digital footprint. Nearly 400 students in grades fourth through eighth will participate from 47 schools when the program returns Oct. 15-16, at Community Yellow Box.

KidsMatter welcomes teens to see showing of ‘Screenagers,’ the movie

“Screensavers” is a documentary film that offers solutions on how parents can help their kids navigate the digital world. Your PN editor viewed it last spring with a large group of teens, their parents and educators at the 95th Street Y. The film, just a little more than an hour long, is eye-opening, honest and recommended.
