UPDATE, Oct. 25, 2019 / Driver Charged in Serious October 4 Crash at Ogden Avenue and Columbia Street
Naperville Police have secured charges against the driver of a 2014 BMW that struck a traffic signal, split in two and caught fire at the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Columbia Street earlier this month.
Robert M. Skura, 47, of Lisle, Ill., is charged with the following:
- Reckless Driving, Class A misdemeanor
- Speeding, 35 mph over the posted speed limit, Class A misdemeanor
- Disobeying a traffic control signal
- Failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash
- Improper lane usage

Original Post, Oct. 7, 2019 / On Friday October 4, 2019, at approximately 9:49PM, the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Fire Department responded to Ogden Avenue and Columbia Street for a single vehicle crash involving a 2014 BMW driven by a 47-year-old male out of Lisle. The initial investigation indicates that the BMW was traveling eastbound on Ogden Avenue towards Columbia when it lost control, striking the traffic signal on the southeast corner of the intersection. Upon impact, the BMW split in half and caught fire.
The 47-year-old male was transported from the scene with serious injuries. Due to the nature of the incident, members of the Naperville Police Department Traffic Unit trained in accident investigation and reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate the crash. During the course of the initial investigation, the intersection of Ogden Ave and Columbia was closed and rerouted until approximately 5AM.
At this time, no citations or charges have been filed as the incident remains under investigation.
