In my role as Director of Arts DuPage, I constantly search for artists and arts organizations in DuPage County. I had a “eureka!” moment a few weeks ago when I received an email from Tina Miritello, director of Bach to Rock (B2R), a new music school located in Naperville. Happy to discover a local venue that helps promote culture in the region, I needed to find out more.
B2R opened its doors in September 2018 and offers classes in guitar, piano, drums, violin, trumpet, voice, and DJ to students of all ages and skill levels. Using an innovative approach to music instruction, B2R is able to successfully engage its class enrollees.
“At Bach to Rock we believe that students learn best when they join together to play the music they like most,” stated Miritello. “That’s why we use special arrangements of the music of our time and combine individual lessons with band instruction.”
Inspiring young musicians by equipping them with attainable goals is an essential component of the B2R method. As part of their training, students have the opportunity to play with other musicians in front of audiences. Miritello said that “B2R also holds regularly scheduled public concerts that encourage students to become seasoned performers. These creative group activities foster teamwork, build self-esteem, and motivate students to perfect their musicianship through independent practice.”
Class sessions conclude with a CD recorded in B2R’s state-of-the-art recording studio. A division of Bach to Rock, B2R Studios provides a wide range of services including editing, sound mixing, and voice over production. The space is available for rental and for students interested in learning and expanding their technical skills.
B2R is also the home of Beat Refinery DJ School where students can learn mixing, scratching, and music production. Those interested in pursuing DJ careers can complete many of the classes required for a professional DJ certificate through the program.
