Firefighters Extinguish Attic Fire on the 1000 Block of Katherine Ave.

-

At 3:37PM on Friday, May 3, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a resident reporting smoke within a multi-family townhome. A Full-Still assignment was dispatched to the inside smoke investigation. Truck 1 arrived on scene within four minutes.

Upon investigation, Truck 1 upgraded the incident to a General Alarm for a working attic fire in the residence. A General Alarm assignment adds one additional engine and ladder truck to the scene. Command was established, while Truck 1 and Engine 7 deployed a hose line inside the residence to extinguish the fire. The fire was confined to the attic and there was no extension to the adjacent property. Crews assisted with establishing a water supply, ventilating the house to remove smoke and searching the residence for any victims or hazards.

The fire was declared under control at 4PM, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) was notified and responded to the scene. The house was declared uninhabitable and two residents were displaced. The residents did not need any additional services.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Naperville Police Department and the City of Naperville’s department of Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED).

The Plainfield Fire Protection District, Warrenville Fire Protection District and Bolingbrook Fire Department provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident.
