-

Above / Naperville rescue units were called for water rescue required in the 2100 Block of Winding River Drive, east of 87th Street and south of Route 59.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 12:18PM on Friday, April 27, 2018 Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from several citizens reporting a vehicle in the water at Winding River Dr. with possibly someone still inside.

PSAP immediately dispatched a box alarm for the water rescue incident which brought a total of 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 heavy rescue squad, 2 ambulances, 1 incident commander, 1 safety officer and the Naperville water rescue team (18 initial personnel) to the scene. The alarm also activated the MABAS 16 (Mutual Aid Box Alarm) Water Rescue/Dive team for immediate response. Updated information from PSAP, while companies were en route, confirmed at least one occupant who was attempting to escape the submerging vehicle.

Engine 10 arrived on the scene within 4 minutes of the initial 911 call and confirmed a rescue operation was being initiated by on-scene companies. An Engine 10 crew member immediately entered the water with the appropriate water rescue equipment and utilized aggressive static water rescue techniques to gain access to the vehicle. The crew quickly located the submerged male occupant and pulled him to the surface.

Emergency responders were then able to move the patient to the shore where paramedics provided advanced life support care and transported the individual to Edward Hospital. The Naperville Dive Team arrived and continued to search the vehicle and water for any other possible occupants.

Naperville Police and PSAP dispatchers were able to assist with confirming a single occupant was inside the vehicle prior to the incident.

The MABAS Box Alarm was downgraded prior to the arrival of resources and there were no reported injuries to
fire or police department responders.
