NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Naperville Police Department is pleased to announce that Kathleen “Kathy” Anderson has been appointed to the position of deputy chief. Anderson currently serves as a commander in the Naperville Police Department’s Investigations Division.

“Kathy has proven herself time and again as a strong and competent leader with exceptional organizational and communication skills as well as a passion for mentoring, training and career development. These attributes make her the ideal candidate for this position,” said Police Chief Robert Marshall. “I am confident Kathy will do an exceptional job carrying out the responsibilities of the position and lead with a high level of integrity, courage and open-mindedness.”

“It is an honor and a privilege to be afforded the opportunity to serve in this capacity in the department I have called home for nearly 25 years,” said Anderson. “In any leadership role I’ve held, I have always been committed to teamwork, training and sound decision-making, and I promise to continue to work within those values as deputy chief. I look forward to helping shape the future of this department while simultaneously honoring the traditions of its past and ensuring the continuation of its outstanding and groundbreaking work in the community.”

Since 1993, Anderson has served Naperville Police Department

Anderson began her career at the Naperville Police Department as a patrol officer in 1993. She served as a field training officer and a youth investigator and has held the position of sergeant of the patrol, training, school resource, and youth investigations and social services units. Most recently, Anderson has served as a commander in the Patrol Division as well as the Investigation Division’s youth and community services unit.

During her time with the Naperville Police Department, Anderson has been instrumental in the establishment and oversight of a Crisis Intervention Team as well as the enhancement of the field training program to provide a more valuable experience for new officers. As a school resource unit sergeant, Anderson established a more robust training for school safety and violence prevention, earning her the Illinois State Board of Education Award of Excellence in 2010.

Since 2014, Anderson has co-chaired the Naperville Public Safety St. Baldrick’s Event, which has raised over $1.3 million for pediatric cancer research. She has also been awarded two Citizens Appreciate Public Safety (CAPS) awards and one meritorious unit award, among other honors and recognition.

Anderson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University and graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command in 2017.
