German language church service

Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30AM on Sun., Dec, 3.

The service will be led by Dr. Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Dr. German services are held on the first Sunday of every month and will continue for the Christmas holidays and on Jan. 7. For more info, call (630) 355-5208.

‘Buy a Brick’ Campaign continues

During the Riverwalk 2000 fundraiser launched in 1997, the Daily Herald sponsored a “Buy a Brick” ad campaign featuring different residents holding the “Your Name Here” brick.

Today, the initiative that gives individuals the opportunity to write a message to be engraved on a brick or a granite stone continues to be a popular gift item and a way to support the Riverwalk Foundation.

To order a 4 x 8 brick ($150) for the Riverwalk extension or an 8 x 8 brick ($250) for Fredenhagen Park, simply send a check made payable to the Riverwalk Foundation with your 12 character per line, 3-line ($150) or 6-line message ($250) to Jan Erickson, Riverwalk Administrator, City of Naperville, TED Business Group, 400 S. The Guild of St. Patrick’s Residence to Host Annual Christmas Cookie Walk and Boutique

On Saturday, Dec. 2, the Guild of St. Patrick’s Residence will host its annual Christmas Cookie Walk & Boutique from 9 to 11AM.

Attendees can purchase pre-packaged cookies or stroll among the tables to select a holiday assortment. There will be a limited supply of the ever-favorite English toffee made by the Carmelite Sisters of St. Patrick’s. Cookies and Toffee will be sold by the weight.

They are looking for cookie bakers to share their favorite holiday cookies with them. Five to six dozen holiday-themed cookies can be delivered to the St. Patrick’s Volunteer Office in disposable containers/trays on Friday, December 1 between of 8:30AM-7:PM.

Kids Community Forum is set for Jan. 30, 2018

KidsMatter will host the inaugural State of the Kids Community Forum on Tues., January 30, 2018. At that time the nonprofit organization will present the results of the Stress Matters Survey.

Earlier this year, KidsMatter, in conjunction with Patricia Schacht a Psychology professor from North Central College, created a stress survey for youth in response to increased drug abuse and suicide in DuPage and Will Counties. The survey was voluntarily administered to Naperville Community Unit School District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204 7th and 10th graders in October.

Organizers are planning an assembly that will be a true community collaboration with the City, the School Districts, and various nonprofit organizations that work with kids.

Spotlight Performance from art exhibit celebrates nature education program

An evening of original music, narrative readings and the unveiling of the final mosaic in the assemblies of empathy exhibit will focus on The Conservation Foundation’s Mighty Acorns® program during a Performance Night at 7PM on Thurs., Dec. 7, in the Oesterle Art Gallery at North Central College, 320 E. School Street in Naperville.

The Mighty Acorns® program is one of three charities chosen by artist Ramon Nayar to receive a portion of sales from the nature-themed wall art. Nayar will perform his original music and present narrative readings before unveiling the final mosaic piece to complete the exhibit, which will be on display at the Oesterle Art Gallery through January 3, 2018. The program and exhibit are admission free.
