Panel provides interactive discussion on senior living

-

Campaign seasons offer many opportunities to meet and greet the candidates. Sometimes it’s not all about the candidate when a hopeful has an idea to welcome the public to learn about other issues on the horizon in Naperville. For instance, City Councilman Kevin Coyne recently held an open discussion, a review if you will, about a variety of senior living topics with a panel of professionals.

Mike Cooper, owner of the Naperville Senior Center, hosted the event. Cooper discussed the senior day care services his company provides at 1504 N. Naper Blvd.

Coyne led the enlightening 90-minute discussion regarding how to access, provide and propose services that fulfill unmet needs for seniors. The insightful program will prove beneficial to all individuals in attendance as they age. For instance, did you know? By 2019, 27 percent of Naperville’s 150,000 population likely will be 55 and over. That’s 42,000 residents.

The panel was comprised of Michele Hilger, who presented senior housing options offered by the independent living facility, Monarch Landing; Alan Hoffman, of Oasis Senior Advisors, who discussed local housing options for seniors and how his company assists families; and Karen Courney and Jim Hill represented the all-volunteer Naperville Senior Task Force.

Ride Assist Naperville is set to begin

Courney and Hill offered information about the newly-formed task force and detailed a new ride assist program (RAN) that will provide transportation for seniors to area doctor appointments. The suggested donation is $12 per round-trip. RAN is set to begin in mid-April.

For more information about RAN, call (630) 864-3087 or visit www.rideassistNaperville.org.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
