When ANSHIKA VARSHNEY and her family arrived at the Naperville Fire Department recently, the thoughtful youngster brought a gift of $100, money she’d earned by doing chores and other odd jobs. Instead of spending the money on herself, she had the idea to donate the cash to the Naperville Fire Department.
When she presented the money to Chief MARK PUKNATIS and Firefighter/Paramedic BRANDON MATHENY, they gratefully said the money would be used to purchase a special fire alarm/clock for someone who is hearing impaired.
The special fire alarm is activated when the home’s smoke detector goes off, providing flashing bright lights and a “bed shaker” to alert the resident. (Photo courtesy Ruthi Sommers for the Naperville Fire Department)
