Above / The patio at Meson Sabika is open for lunch and dinner, 11:30AM to 10PM Sept. 19, to help raise funds for the Red Cross to assist earthquake victims in Italy.
The folks at Meson Sabika have noted, “Olympics are in the past, and politics are in the future – so let’s focus on the present and come together to help the victims of Louisiana and Italy.”
With generous can-do spirit, Meson Sabika opened its doors last Monday to benefit needs of victims of devastating floods that occurred in Louisiana in August. After four days of a torrential downpour practically stood still over Baton Rouge, Louisana, nearly 150,000 homes and thousands of businesses were inhabitable.
“With your generosity we raised $15,082.89 for the victims of Louisiana flood,” noted Hossein Jamali of Meson Sabika, referencing the benefit held September 12.
Dine to benefit earthquake victims on September 19
Today, Mon., Sept. 19, 2016, the tapas restaurant will host an event to raise funds for victims of the recent earthquake in Italy. Every penny —that’s 100 percent of every dollar in sales from lunch and dinner— will benefit needs and relief efforts organized by the Red Cross.
For a brief summary of that horrific event, on Aug. 24, 2016, a 6.2M earthquake caused significant damage to two little towns, Amatrice and Accumoli —near Rieti, 100 kilometres northeast of Rome, and Pescara del Tronto, 25 kilometres further east —in central Italy. Aerial shots of the area featured online show complete ruins. Nearly 300 people were killed. Survivors need access to emergency supplies such as food, water, and medicine in addition to long-term recovery assistance.
Assistance needed now and later
Local service organizations are in the beginning planning stages of how to help in the aftermath of both natural disasters, taking leads from the communities affected to help with rebuilding.
Meanwhile, efforts of the American Red Cross can help in response to immediate emergency needs. Again, Meson Sabika will donate 100 percent of the day’s sales, lunch and dinner, to the American Red Cross.
Meson Sabika is located at 1025 Aurora Avenue.
