Serious traffic crash, driver charged with DUI

Above / Early on July 2, 2016, a car went out of control and struck the tree located in the parkway along Rickert Road.

Naperville PoliceOn Saturday July 2, 2016, at approximately 2:20AM, the Naperville police department and the Naperville Fire Department responded to Rickert Drive and Sanctuary Lane for a single vehicle crash involving a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant driven by 23-year-old Lucas Johnson of Aurora, Illinois.

The initial investigation indicates that the Mitsubishi was northbound Rickert Drive nearing Sanctuary Lane when he lost control of his vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking a tree on the west side of Rickert Drive.

The Naperville Fire Department provided emergency medical care to Mr. Johnson and transported him to Edward Hospital for his serious injuries.

Due to the nature of the incident, members of the Naperville Traffic Unit trained in accident investigation and reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate the accident.

The accident remains under investigation at this time. Rickert Drive between Sanctuary Lane and Book Road was closed throughout the investigation and was reopened at approximately 6:45AM.

Lucas Johnson was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Improper Lane Usage.
