April Events at North Central College

April 1-May 29, Art exhibit: NCC presents a collection of artwork by several North Central faculty members in the “Faculty Group Show,” April 1-March 27, in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The exhibit will showcase paintings, photography, ceramics, 3D art, graphic design and more. The public is invited to meet the artists during a reception from 6 to 8PM, Fri., April 8; complimentary refreshments will be served.

April 9, Music: North Central College presents saxophonist David Sanborn at 8PM Sat., April 9, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Sanborn has released more than 24 albums, won six Grammy Awards and had eight gold and one platinum albums. Tickets are $60 and $50.

April 10, Music: The Naperville Men’s Glee Club presents “The American Heroes Concert” at 3PM Sun., April 10, in NCC’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. For more info and tickets call (630) 448-0518 or visit napervillemensgleeclub.org.

April 10, Music: NCC welcomes Marianne Murphy Orland with “Pet Project” at 6PM Sun., April 10, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Orland brings a loving tribute to Petula Clark and performs some of Clark’s hit songs like “I Know A Place,” “Don’t Sleep in the Subway” and “Downtown.” Tickets are $35 and $30.

April 13, Music: NCC presents a student jazz performance, featuring two jazz combos and the Big Band at 7:30PM Wed., April 13, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and seniors.

April 14-15, Theatre: AlphaBet Soup Productions presents two performances of the Rudyard Kipling classic “The Jungle Book” at 10:30AM April 14-15 in NCC’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. For more info and tickets call (630) 932-1555 or visit absproductions.com.

April 15, Transfer information session: NCC will host an information session Fri., April 15, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, scholarships and financial aid. Registration begins at 9:30AM in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. April 16, Music: NCC presents Kansas, the legendary rock band from America’s heartland, in concert at 8PM Sat., April 16, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $75, $65 and $50.

April 18, Film: NCC will host a free screening of the documentary “American Textures” at 7PM Mon., April 18, in the College’s Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. The film follows the journey of six American youth of White, Black and Latino origin, confronting racial divisions in the United States. April 21, Lecture: NCC will host a free lecture on the topic “Women in Sports Around the World” by Dr. Gertrud Pfister, professor of sport history at Copenhagen University, Denmark, at 6PM Thurs., April 21, in the Wentz Concert Hall Lobby, 171 E. April 21-24, Theatre: NCC students present four performances of “Late: A Cowboy Song” at 7PM April 21-23 and at 2PM April 24 in the College’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. This poetic, quirky meditation by contemporary American playwright Sarah Ruhl tells the story of Mary, who’s on a path of self-discovery somewhere in present-day Pittsburgh. Tickets are $10/adults and $8/students and seniors.

April 24, Music: The Chicago a cappella presents “The History of Rock and Soul: with Terri Hemmert” at 4PM Sun., April 24, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. For more info and tickets call (773) 281-7820 or visit chicagoacappella.org.

April 27, Music: NCC’s Office of International Programs presents “Surahbi: An Evening of World Fusion Music” at 6:30PM Wed., April 27, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Surabhi is a fusion ensemble with Indian, African, Arabic and Spanish flamenco influences. New music and dance groove pieces will be performed during the free concert. April 28, Music: NCC features its Chamber Singers ensemble in “Metamorphosis” at 7:30PM Thurs., April 28, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. “Metamorphosis” showcases the Chamber Singers in a widely varied program of sacred, secular, contemporary and multicultural music. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and seniors.

April 29, Dance: NCC presents the Moscow Festival Ballet performing “The Sleeping Beauty” at 8PM Fri., April 29, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. A full ballet, “The Sleeping Beauty” is an adaptation of the well-known fairy tale, complete with a king and queen, fairies, prince, princess and magical stage effects. Tickets are $40, $30 and $25.

April 29-30, Relay for Life: NCC will host its annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraising event at the College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St. Check-in begins at 5PM Fri., April 29, with opening ceremonies at 6PM. Closing ceremonies take place at 5:30AM Sat., April 30.
