The Bridal Showcase is a great opportunity for busy brides and grooms to plan their dream wedding from 5:30 to 9PM Friday, Jan. 8 and from 10AM to 3PM Jan. 9, in the historic setting of the Pre-Emption House and Century Memorial Chapel at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St. Enjoy one-on-one consultations with the best in the bridal business including photographers, florists, DJs, musicians, bakers, caterers, ministers and more. Admission is free.

History Speaks Lecture Series: Bette Davis

Few actresses in the history of film rival Bette Davis’s longevity and appeal. This witty, sharp portrayal by actress and historian Leslie Goddard reveals Davis not only as a riveting personality, but as the ultimate star in the Golden Age of Hollywood. This presentation of the History Speaks Lecture Series will be held from 4 to 5PM Sunday, Jan. 10 at Century Memorial Chapel, 523 S. Webster St. Day of event tickets are $7 adults, $6 youth (4-12), students and Settlement-6 members and above. Advance tickets save $1 each.

Naperville Plays!

Discover the wonder of play throughout history and cultures around the world during Naperville Plays from 10AM to 2PM Saturday, Jan. 16 at the DuPage Children’s Museum, 301 N. Washington St., Naperville. Visitors will triple their fun with the DuPage Children’s Museum, Naper Settlement and the Naperville Public Library. Naperville Plays will feature hands-on arts and science exhibits, a live performance and an exclusive traveling exhibit featuring the children of Hangzhou. Admission is $12 adult and youth (one year and older), $10 seniors 60+, Naper Settlement and DCM members are free.

Super Scout Sunday – Breathe Leadership Journey

Increase your awareness about the issues that impact Earth’s air during Super Scout Sunday – Breathe Leadership Journey that will be held from 1 to 4PM Sunday, Jan. 17 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St.Tour the Martin Mitchell Mansion and then learn different relaxation techniques while making soap, bath salts and scented candles. Enjoy tea as while exploring aromatherapy. This program is open to third year Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts and earns the Aware Award and parts of the Alert Award of Breathe Journey for Cadettes. Fee is $27 per Scout, $10 per adult; one adult per four Scouts maximum. Registration is required.

History Connectors and Building Interpreters Informational Meetings

Resolve to get involved in the New Year and learn more about volunteering at Naper Settlement. Attend one informational meeting, either 7 to 8:30PM Tuesday, Jan. 26 or 10 to 11:30AM Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Meeting House, corner of Webster Street and Porter Ave. Teens in grades 8 to 12 and adults can volunteer as History Connectors and work with our visitors at special hands-on activity stations, Settlement Sundays, summer camp, Girl Scout programs and more. No costumes are required. Adults ages 18 and older can volunteer as Building Interpreters to tell the stories of the past and how they relate to the present inside the historic museum buildings. Period clothing is an option, but is required for blacksmith and schoolhouse interpreters. Training takes place throughout the winter to prepare for the summer season, which begins April 1. Juniors on the Green Parent Informational Meetings

Calling all children entering grades 4 and 5 for the Juniors on the Green volunteer program. From April through October, the Juniors, dressed in period clothing like overalls and dresses with petticoats, play typical games and do chores and activities of the past. Parents must attend one informational meeting, either 7 to 8:30PM Thursday, Jan. 28 or 1 to 2:30PM Saturday, Jan. 30 at Naper Settlement’s Meeting House, corner of Webster St. and Porter Ave. Training will take place throughout the winter to prepare for the summer season, which begins April 1.
