Through Jan. 28, Art exhibit: NCC presents the artwork of Ian Mitchell Wallace in an exhibit of his watercolor paintings and drawings of the human figure. Titled “Mystical Fruits,” this free exhibit is open to the public through Jan. 28 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St.
Through Jan. 31, Art exhibit: NCC presents the artwork of Charles A. Heinrich in an exhibit, titled “A Lifetime of Amusement: 40 Years of a Journey.” The free exhibit of paintings and 3D art from discarded books will be displayed through Jan. 31 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave.
Jan. 7-10, Theatre: NCC students present William Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” Set in a midcentury American soda shop, this show brings in original live music, fun and a sassy cultural critique of the text’s complicated representations of love, jealousy, marriage, gender roles and social class. Five performances will be staged at 7:30PM Jan. 7-9 and at 2PM Jan. 9-10 in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $10/adults and $8/students and seniors.
Jan. 16, Music: NCC presents the Jim Peterik & World Stage show at 8PM Saturday, Jan. 16, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Peterik handpicks the hottest and most versatile musicians for his band and together they bring powerhouse hit songs, virtuoso playing, stunning vocals and unexpected twists and turns to the stage. Tickets are $75 and $65.
Jan. 17, Music: NCC welcomes Chicago Sinfonietta for its “Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” at 3PM Sunday, Jan. 17, in North Central’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The concert begins and ends with gospel and spirituals from the Apostolic Church of God Sanctuary Choir. Bass virtuoso Victor Wooten joins the orchestra for the Illinois premiere of “The Bass Whisperer.” Tickets are $60, $48 and $10.
Jan. 22, Music: NCC presents “An Evening with Jazz Saxophonist Mitch Paliga” along with supporting North Central jazz faculty artists at 8PM Friday, Jan. 22, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $20/adults and $15/students and seniors.
Jan. 24, Music: NCC presents award-winning entertainer and recording artist Spider Saloff in “Spider Saloff Sings Irving Berlin” at 6PM Sunday, Jan. 24, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Saloff will perform a riveting program through stories and music about the life and career of American songwriter Irving Berlin. Tickets are $35 and $30.
Jan. 28-30, Theatre: NCC presents “Fragments: A Theatrical Dance Experience” at 7:30PM Jan. 28-30 in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Directed by Dmitri Peskov, this experience is a series of physical actions and theatrical situations that explore questions, both big and small, through visceral movement, text and stillness. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and seniors.
Jan. 30, Music: NCC presents “Sinatra Forever: Salute to Frank Sinatra,” performed by Rick Michel, one of Las Vegas’ premier singers, at 8PM Saturday, Jan. 30, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Michel’s homage to Sinatra is a timeless concert and part of the American Songbook with all the original arrangements. Tickets are $50, $40 and $30.
Jan. 31-March 17, Art exhibit: NCC showcases the artwork of painter Madai Taylor on display Jan. 31 through March 17 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. His paintings use organic materials, natural forms and earth to address themes of disintegration, regeneration and reproduction.
