October 3 is chock full of happenings in Naperville

Here’s a preview of one busy Saturday in Naperville!

October 3 is chock full of events beginning at 9AM at Oswald’s Pharmacy and ending late in the evening at the new Embassy Suites along the Corporate Corridor.

In addition to kids’ sporting activities, Saturday chores and participating in special events planned for families and the entire community, be sure to take time to enjoy the autumn days.

Above/ Stroll the Naperville Riverwalk to find reflections of volunteerism and this city’s rich history of pioneer spirit in its quarries and all along the DuPage River from Jefferson to Hillside roads.

Happy 140th Birthday, Oswald’s!

The public is invited to experience how this independent, family-owned business has grown since 1875, recently adding its spacious new medical equipment center, complete with the largest selection of lift chairs in the metropolitan area as well as a new and expanded line of athletic and surgical braces.

Saturday hours are 9AM to 6PM.  Look for specials throughout the day. Oswald’s Pharmacy is located in Naperville Plaza near Casey’s Foods where grilling is happening from 11AM-2PM.

Above / A new showroom features all types of items for those times when you need a little lift. Find rolling walkers, electric scooters and a bathroom safety section with new items ready to make any home safer and easier to navigate. 

Sportsman Park Opens / 9:30AM

The Naperville Park District invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of Sportsman’s Park, located at 735 S. West St.  The event will take place at 9:30AM on Sat., Oct. 3, near the clubhouse and parking lot on the west side of the park.

Above / New trails will welcome residents to explore the natural beauty of Sportsman Park.

Public Safety Open House / 10AM-3PM

The Naperville Police and Fire Departments invite all residents to attend the annual Public Safety Open House taking place from 10AM to 3PM on Saturday, October 3 at Naperville’s Public Safety Campus, located at 1380 Aurora Ave. Meet McGruff and Sparky and many of the city’s first responders.

Above / Families will enjoy learning during simulations and demonstrations provided by rescue teams and first responders at the Naperville Public Safety Center.

Kiwanis Peanut Day Wrap Up

The Naperville Evening Kiwanis wrap up peddling packs of peanuts for pocket change during their annual Peanut Day fundraiser.  Thanks to all who have supported this year’s campaign.

Oktoberfest / Noon to 10PM

Beginning Friday evening, Naper Settlement hosts two days of its annual Oktoberfest. Hours are noon to 10PM on Sat., Oct. 3.  Enjoy live musical entertainment ranging from classic German Oompah music to classic rock, along with German beer and cuisine. Family-friendly activities will be available on Saturday from noon-5PM.

Above / Put on your lederhosen and an Alpine hat or not to join the fun of live music and many flavors of Germany in the big heated tent at Naper Settlement.

Little Shop of Horrors / 2PM & 7PM

Naperville North High School will present its fall musical on Oct. 2-3. Little Shop of Horrors takes the stage in the Naperville North Performing Arts Center at 2PM and 7PM Sat., Oct. 3. The school is located at 899 North Mill Street.

Singing for Seniors Concert / 3PM

The 16th Annual Singing for Seniors Singing for Seniors will be held this year on a Saturday at a new location. The popular concert designed for the 55-plus set, featuring musical selections that bring back memories of a lifetime, will take the stage from 3-4:30PM Sat., Oct. 3, at the Yellow Box, located at the corner of Ogden and Rickert.  Entertainment includes songs from the Napervile Men’s Glee Club, the Naperville Summer Place Singers, and InVox of Chicago.

Take Back the Night / 4-7PM

For over 20 years, Take Back The Night DuPage has successfully brought the DuPage County Community together to stand up and speak out regarding domestic violence. Community leaders and partners pool their services and resources. One way Take Back the Night raises awareness is through visual art exhibits. Central Park is located at 104 E. Benton, just off Washington St. in downtown Naperville.

Cure Batten Disease Benefit / 6:30PM

On October 3, Friends for the Charlotte and Gwenyth Gray Foundation to Cure Batten Disease will hold a benefit at the Embassy Suites at 1813 Arbiter Court in Naperville. The event will feature a 6:30PM cocktail reception, dinner, entertainment and a live auction. Celebrities Giuliana and Bill Rancic will host the evening. Tickets are $150 each, and sponsorship packages are available.  (Link to story)
