Offensive Player of the Week
Benet junior quarterback Jack Sznajder
Benet’s Jack Sznajder’s four first-half touchdown passes helped Benet race out to a 35-7 lead over St. Laurence en route to picking up a 42-21, season-opening victory. All told, Sznajder tossed five TDs – nearly matching his 2014 total of six on one night. He threw for 211 yards and threw three touchdowns to Will O’Grady and two to Robert Bordignon.
Defensive Player of the Week
Naperville Central senior Emmanuel Rugamba
The Iowa-bound Rugamba showed why he’s headed to Iowa City next fall as a defensive back at the most opportune time for No. 5 Naperville Central against No. 15 Glenbard North. Rugamba’s interception of Panthers quarterback Brett Conway on a fourth-and-nine from the Naperville Central 40 sealed a 13-12 Redhawks’ victory with 1:35 left in regulation.
