Structure Fire 200 block of Tamarack
At 9:08PM on Thursday night (July, 30, 2015), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from an occupant inside a residential structure reporting smoke and flames coming from a dishwasher. PSAP immediately dispatched a full still assignment for the appliance fire that included two suppression vehicles, one ladder truck, one ambulance and tw0 command vehicles to the scene. The initial suppression company arrived on the scene within four minutes of dispatch and reported smoke was showing on the outside of the home.
The fire officer requested an upgrade of the response to a general alarm which added a suppression vehicle, truck, squad and ambulance to the incident for the confirmed fire with possible structure involvement. The general alarm assigned a total of 24 personnel to the scene.
The first in fire officer confirmed that both occupants were out of the building and entered the structure with a crew to locate and extinguish the fire. A hand line was stretched and charged, however crews were able to extinguish the fire, located in the kitchen, with a dry chemical extinguisher. Damage was isolated to the appliance and immediate area and included a moderate amount of smoke damage throughout the home. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) deemed the building not habitable and the residents were relocated for the evening.
The fire was determined to be accidental. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department and NiCor. Fire units from the Plainfield and Bolingbrook Fire agencies provided station coverage during this incident.
Two occupants were evaluated on the scene and did not require transport to a hospital. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

Editor’s Note: Avoid kitchen fires, the leading cause of home structure fires and home fire injuries. Electrical cooking equipment such microwaves, dishwashers, toasters, stovetops can start fires if something (food, plastic items, paper/cloth towels or wooden spoons) falls/sticks on the electrical unit.
Also to avoid risks of fire in the laundry room, always keep the lint trap free of lint build up. Lint accumulation and reduced airflow can create conditions perfect to ignite a fire. Be sure the dryer is well-vented. Also, clean behind the dryer.
