During a four-day event in June, the 88th Annual Lincolnland Convention was held at the Holiday Inn, Urbana, Ill. As President of the Lincolnland District, I had the honor of presiding over the convention. During the Awards Presentation, the Exchange Club of Naperville won the 5 A’s (Annual Activities And Achievement Award), Best Club Bulletin (50 members or more) and Janet Jacobs won the Distinguished Service Award for her contributions to Exchange as well as to the Naperville Community.
Earlier this year, the club named Austin Hanson (Naperville North High School Senior) Youth of the Year and Timothy Churchill (Naperville North High School Senior) ACE (Achieving the Challenge of Excellence) Award winner. Timothy also was named the Lincolnland District ACE Award winner which is quite an accomplishment. Timothy was one of 10 entries and he is well deserving of this award.
Adding to all of the festivities, Dawn Portner, Exchange Club of Naperville President, was elected to hold the position of Lincolnland District President Elect. This distinction also is quite an achievement and we are so grateful for Dawn’s stepping up to this leadership position. Dawn will do a fantastic job and will be installed next June at the convention in Quincy, Ill.
My term as President came to an end on June 30. I have thoroughly enjoyed holding this position and I have met some wonderful Exchangites. I will continue to promote Exchange as Immediate Past President.
Please join us for a luncheon meeting on the first and third Fridays at noon at Hugo’s Frog Pond. There will not be a meeting on Independence Day, July 4. We welcome your interest in our club as we’re always seeking new members who embrace our mission.
And, of course, here’s hoping everyone enjoys all the entertainment and barbecue featured at 2014 Ribfest, July 3-7, in Knoch Park, our big fundraiser in support of projects provided by more than 50 nonprofit organizations.
